New painting...

Its not quite done, But happy with the way its coming out.
that makes four portraits done. One self, two of Jynxx and now the Matt. Yay!
I find getting started is the hardest part of the painting. I always go through that period where I think the painting sucks, even thought I know the painting is even close to being done. But I struggle through it. Im trying to get the motivation to start a new portrait. Im going to try. I hope you like the new painting. I welcome all comments. don't be shy.

I need opinions. Im having an artistic dilemma

Below is the new composition for the Rev. Jynxx painting. I love it this way. the problem. The stars. there are two schools of thought. Finish the stars and not to finish the stars. Im not sure which way to go. Some feel the painting looks great this way and finishing the stars would actually take away from the painting. Others feel like the painting looks unfinsihed because of the stars. I need more opinions please let me know what you think.

Finally a keyboard!!! And a new blog entry.

I think right now this painting has got to be one of my favorite paintings. It's 5x5. its a small piece. I'm thinking Im going to mount it on a larger black board with a 4 or 5 inch border on each side. Something that will keep the focus on the painting.
The show has moved back to march 28th with the artist reception on April 3rd or 4th.
More information will follow as I know it. I have started a painting on my second victi... um model... I'm loving this process.
My rev. Jynxx painting has taken a whole new life. I separated the boards and came up with a new composition that makes the painting look amazing. Even if there is a debate about some of components of it. I'll go into that in another time.

painting update. -excuse lack of captials cat spilled water on my keyboard-

this is the actual painting portion of the piece. next is to mount the piece. im thinking I a piece of wood stained and have some of the elements of the painting bleeding out onto the wood. it is on 4 6x6 aqua boards, it watercolor with some metal inks. i used the liqutex new inks. and im not impressed. I miss the old brand of inks i used to use but i cant find them at Jerry's anymore. the jaquard paint i bought for the silver is nice and if i cant find the inks I may switch to that.
i did my 2nd sitting on Sunday. a very different experience from my first sitting. he actually sat still. part of the experience of sitting is to get a real feel of the person. as well. you can learn a lot about someone by sitting and observing them. also very different features and personality then the rev. the Matt has such pretty features but isn't nearly as expressive as the rev. he said something about being a human cartoon. both of them my friends and i find both of them beautiful. hopefully today i will start matt's painting.

painting of Rev. Jynxx midnite.

Ive hit some frustration in painting. Maybe I had been looking at my model too much or i was too much in hurry to try to finish it. i had to step away for a day. Its no where near done. But i have pics of my progress. the face is pretty much done, the background hat and bosy still need work. I plan to add metallic inks to it as well. im feeling much better about the painting. my sis thinks its great but thats her, shes bias. anyways here are some pics of the refrence photo as well as the apinting. it is 4 6x6 panels put together.

some of them didn't photograph as well as i would of liked. if any one wants to trade let me know!
I did my first sitting for the portrait project. Jynxx has one of the most expressive faces that i have scene. I took a bunch of reference photos and now i don't know which ones to choose. I did a rough drawing of one of the pics. again it looks better live. i don't plan to paint this one but i really liked it so i did a drawing. the pencils are watercolor drawing pencils so i was able to have some fun with that. I'm looking forward to starting the paintings!

welcome to my art blog.

After a long break i have decided to start painting again. The two things i want to explore is atcs. (artist trading cards) and portraits.
My first major project is my portrait project . which i still need a title for. The next three months or so I plan to paint about a dozen portraits of people I know, and for once Im going to get to paint boys, something I rarely do. I look forward to it.
So far I have 4 boys who have agreed to sit for me. Everyone of them very different in look and personality. it makes this process exciting for me.
I wont have just boys in this project, and not everyone who sits will make it in the final project which will be shown at the Royal bean coffee house in the spring.
I'm at at the beginning of this journey and like all journeys it begins with me.
